About Us

The plant's 12,220-acre site provides a protected habitat for several threatened species, including bald eagles, peregrine falcons and white-tailed hawks. The area encompassing STP consistently leads the U.S. with the highest number of bird species in the National Audubon Society's annual Christmas Bird Count.

STP – in cooperation with conservation groups and state and federal agencies – created an official habitat for waterfowl, near the plant entrance on FM 521. STP's site also includes a large tract of native Prairie Grass, one of the few such areas left on the Gulf Coast.
