Unit 1 Leads Country in Production
Wadsworth, Texas -- March 12, 2002 -- The South Texas
Project (STP) Unit 1 reactor generated more electricity
than any other reactor in the U.S. in 2001. With the
exception of a scheduled 21-day shut-down for refueling,
the unit ran continuously last year and produced 10.8

Unit 1 Back Online After 21-Day
Refueling Outage
Wadsworth, Texas -- Nov. 8, 2001 -- The Unit 1 reactor
at the South Texas Project Electric Generating Station
has been refueled and is back online. STP Unit 1 returned
to service Oct. 24, two days ahead of schedule, following
a 21-day 15-hour 33-minute shutdown. The outage was
well ahead of the current U.S. median reactor refueling
time of 35 days, as tracked by the Nuclear Energy

STP Pioneers Major Change for
Industry
Wadsworth, Texas -- August 9, 2001 -- Federal regulators
have approved a request from the South Texas Project
to ease or eliminate restrictions on nuclear power plant
components with little or no effect on safety. Safety
at STP will not be compromised, and the precedent-setting
action could greatly reduce maintenance costs for STP.

STP Has Lowest Fuel Cost of
All Power Plants in U.S.
Wadsworth, Texas -- July 25, 2001 -- The South Texas
Project nuclear power plant has the lowest average fuel
cost of any power plant in the U.S., reports filed with
federal regulators show. At four-tenths of a cent per
kilowatt-hour (kwh) STP's cost is the best reported
among American nuclear plants, and the uranium used
in reactors is the least expensive power plant fuel.
